Dear Parents/Guardians,
The Health Department will be conducting hearing and vision screenings for students.
Hearing and vision screenings are required by State law1 for all students in grades
Kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th. These screenings are free and will be done during the
school day.
These screenings help detect hearing and vision problems that may make it harder for
students to learn. By finding hearing and vision problems early, they can be easier to treat.
Hearing and vision screenings will be done by trained School Health Assistants. If a
problem is suspected, a second screening will be done. If a student does not pass the hearing
and/or vision screening, a letter will be sent home, and the student will need to follow up
with their doctor.
If you have any questions or concern about the hearing or vision screening, please speak
with your child’s school nurse (475-220-3100) or call 203-946-7301.
